        APJ KALAM SIR AUTOBIOGRAPHY 


A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist and statesman who served as India's 11th President from 2002 to 2007, known as the "Missile Man of India" for his pivotal role in India's missile and nuclear programs, and as the "People's President" for his connection with the public. Born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, in 1931, he rose from humble beginnings to become an accomplished aerospace engineer, working on India's space and missile projects before his presidency and continuing as a teacher and writer afterward.  

Early Life and Education

Born: October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. 

Family: Came from a modest Tamil Muslim family. 

Studies: Graduated with a degree in physics from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, and later pursued aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology. 

Scientific Career

DRDO:

Joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and worked on a hovercraft design. 

ISRO:

Moved to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1969 and served as Project Director for the SLV-III, India's first indigenous satellite launch vehicle. 

Missile and Nuclear Programs:

Played a key role in developing India's missile technology and was involved in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. 

Presidency

11th President: Elected president of India in 2002, becoming the first scientist to hold the office. 

Public Persona: Earned the title "People's President" for his engagement with the public. 

Post-Presidency 

Teaching and Writing: After his presidency, he focused on teaching.

Death

Died: July 27, 2017
